MSME New Registration(SSI Certificate)

The Indian economy predominantly consists of micro, small and medium scale enterprises. To give a boost to business entities that come under these sectors, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Act was passed in 2006.

Businesses covered by the MSME

The government to simplify the process of MSME registration has launched the Udyog Aadhaar. The process for registration is now online and the information to be furnished is lesser than the previously used EM-I/II. A 12-digit number that is granted to business after registration under Udyog Aadhaar. The earlier system used for EM-I/II registration has been discontinued.
There are predefined eligibility criteria specifying the businesses that can apply for the MSME registration. The businesses covered under the MSMED Act, 2006 may be divided into following classes:

Manufacturing Enterprises

Manufacturing Enterprises refers to all the businesses that manufacture or produce goods or those that process goods and add to the value of the end product. The Manufacturing Enterprises are defined and further classified based on the amount of money invested in their plant and machinery.

  • Micro Manufacturing Enterprises: Businesses that have invested up to a maximum of 25 lakh Indian rupees are classified as Micro Manufacturing Enterprises.
  • Small Manufacturing Enterprises: Businesses that have invested an amount that is more than 25 lakh Indian rupees but is less than 5 Crore Indian rupees are classified as Small Manufacturing Enterprises.
  • Medium Manufacturing Enterprises: Businesses that have invested an amount that is more than 5 Crore Indian rupees but up to a maximum of 10 Crore Indian rupees are classified as Medium Manufacturing Enterprises.

Service Enterprises

Services Enterprises covers all businesses that provide services to their customers. Service Enterprises are recognized and classified based on the amount of money invested in the equipment they employ.

  • Micro Service Enterprises: Businesses that have invested up to a maximum of 10 lakh Indian rupees for their equipment are termed as Micro Service Enterprises.
  • Small Service Enterprises: Businesses that have invested more than 10 lakh Indian rupees but less than 2 Crore Indian rupees for their equipment are termed as Small Service Enterprises.
  • Medium Service Enterprises: Businesses that have invested more than 2 Crore Indian rupees but less than 5 crore Indian rupees for their equipment are termed as Medium Service Enterprises.

  • Limited Liability Partnership or Incorporation documents
  • Authorization documents for the individual applying on behalf of the organization
  • Details regarding the products processed or manufactured or services provided
  • Certificate or Proof for SC, ST or OBC if applicable.
  • Individuals having multiple enterprises that meet the criteria of MSME may register them separately for different Udyog Aadhaar numbers.
